Burke & Wills Walk
Charity Walk for The Fred Hollows Foundation.
Our 13 km loop walk from Royal Park to Moonee Ponds and return, was a huge success with 130 walkers on a glorious cool Sunday morning in February 2018. So far we have raised $7,500 for the Fred Hollows Foundation. Thanks to all who have very kindly donated and have been sponsored.
The route started at the Cairn where Burke & Wills left Melbourne in 1860 through Flemington to the picturesque Queens Park in Moonee Ponds (B&W 1st overnight stop). Bananas & snack were enjoyed then on to the Moonee Ponds Creek Trail & back to the Nature Play Playground behind the Royal Children's Hospital in Royal Park. More fruit & snacks and a few Lucky Number prizes were given out. What a Walk, what a Day...
Thank you to all the Walkers, young & old, the Volunteers, Jane from the Fred Hollows Foundation & Tracy who led a gentle Zumba warm up before the start.
Phil is now preparing & training for his big 3,200 km Trek following the Burke & Wills Expedition route from Melbourne all the way to the Gulf of Carpentaria in Queensland, leaving from the Royal Park Cairn on May 6th 2018.
