Burke & Wills WALK

The Burke & Wills WALK is retracing Day 1 of the route taken by the intrepid explorers as they slowly moved out of Melbourne in 1860. For safety reasons, we have chosen not to try to cross busy roads but choose the wonderful walkways, trails and pedestrian viaducts as they pass over Flemington Rd and City Link. We walk Mount Alexander Rd footpath, past grand old buildings which still stand after 160 years of service.

Queens Park was their overnight stop, unpacking, camping, loading up and moving on, to the top of Australia. We refresh with a banana and water before walking past beautiful Victorian era homes, then follow the Moonee Ponds Creek as it flows past leafy, rocky outcrops and playparks.

Once again we cross the viaduct over busy roads, then walk beneath the grand old trees along Flemington Rd and finish at Nature Play in Royal Park to celebrate with a snack & fruit.
